ZenWalk Linux on VirtualBox PDF Print E-mail

In order to have a good experience developing for Android, I decided to just abort the attempt to getting everything to work in Vista, and install Linux under VirtualBox.

I went to distrowatch.org and wanted to try a Linux distribution that I had not previously tried.  I downloaded ZenWalk, which is meant to be a lean and mean Linux distribution.  I honestly didn't care what distribution I got, cause I wasn't going to be using a package manager or anything, I manually installed everything I needed.  All you need to develop android applications is Java, Eclipse, and the Android SDK.  That's all I installed and found that I had everything else I needed.

Overall, I don't think I would recommend ZenWalk over Ubuntu, or Fedora, but I found it to be nice.  I also like that they feature the xfce window manager, which is less popular than gnome/kde, but is a great option if you don't need all the other distractions of the larger window managers.

Android Development on Vista PDF Print E-mail

I have been doing some android development on linux, but have lately be relinquished to using my laptop as I am away visiting family for the holidays.  I have been running into problems with eclipse being able to run the adb.exe program so that I can debug quickly from eclipse.

It seems not to be a problem with the plugin for android development nor with the sdk, because from the command line I am getting a correct response:

C:\Users\Kekoa Vincent>adb version
Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.20

It looks like it may be a problem with running external programs through eclipse, because if I add the adb.exe as an external tool, when it executes, I get no output, but it says the program terminated.  The problem is I want the output or else the plugin can't communicate with my sdk installation.

Has anyone encountered this kind of problem with eclipse?  Let me know if you know what's wrong, I have tried about all I can.

I will file the obligatory holiday blog post. I am staying with my wife's family, and so far it has been very nice and relaxing.  It is also much warmer down here in Arizona.  I'm glad we're missing out on all the winter storms.

Anyhow, Merry Christmas to all of you out there I hope you have a great holiday with your families and friends.

the resurrected website PDF Print E-mail

So I have been completely terrible at doing a website.  It has been yes, over a year since my last post.  I decided to start fresh, with a different design, and a simplified concept in the hopes that I will actually maintain a simple website.

My wife has been doing great on her blog, she has been out-posting me, so I'm trying to follow her example to keep the things I'm doing documented.

A lot has happened in a year, yes, I'm married now.  It's hard to say who I'm writing to, but I hope the things I say will somehow in some way be useful to someone if not myself only.

So, sit back and relax, sign up for the RSS feed and keep and eye on this space, I will be more consistent I promise.

After a failed attempt at using Ubuntu, I will be trying Debian Etch, and with much greater success.  I am using the same machine and have the same idea.
